Wall Street Journal: Coronado Island, Once a Magnet for the Rich and Famous, Is Cool Again

Driving across the bridge to the slender Coronado peninsula that juts into San Diego Bay might be one of Southern California’s singular pleasures. As the city skyline shrinks in the rearview mirror, the bridge curves past sailboats bobbing in the water, and the distinctive crown-shaped copper turret of the Hotel del Coronado looms into sight.

“It’s literally six minutes from downtown San Diego, and you get off of that bridge, and it’s so close and yet feels so far,” said Arsalun Tafazoli, founder of the San Diego hospitality group CH Projects, which is opening its first hotel on the island later this year.
